How to choose a Renewable Gas Vendor?

Selecting a suitable renewable gas vendor for your company requires a systematic approach. Here are some steps you could follow:

1. Identify your needs: The very first step is to have a clear understanding of your company's specific needs. How much renewable gas will your company require? What kind of sustainability goals do you have? Do you need the renewable gas for heating, for electricity, or some other use?

2. Compile a list of Vendors: Once you understand your company's needs, start researching potential vendors. Look online, ask for recommendations, and try reaching out to industry experts or attend industry conferences or forums for potential leads.

3. Background Check: Evaluate potential vendors based on their history, reputation, dependability, and service quality. Look at customer testimonials or reviews if possible. Check their experience in the industry and their compliance with industry regulations.

4. Evaluate their technology: What methods are they using to produce renewable gas? Evaluate the efficiency, sustainability, and environmental impact of their technology.

5. Service Package: Carefully assess what services each vendor offers. Do they include regular maintenance, 24/7 customer service, system checks, etc?

6. Pricing: Compare the pricing of different vendors and the services they include in that price. Make sure there are no hidden fees and the pricing is in line with your budget.

7. Sustainability: Assess each provider's commitment to sustainability. Many providers may claim to offer renewable gas, but their production methods or other practices may not necessarily be sustainable.

8. Visit the Facility: If possible, visit the manufacturer's facility to observe their operations, meet the team, and get a better understanding of the process.

9. Proposals: Ask the potential vendors to provide a proposal addressing your specific needs and requirements.

10. Negotiate: Once you have a preferred vendor, negotiate the terms of the agreement including the price, services, duration, etc.  Remember that the decision should not be solely based on pricing; consider their reliability, customer service, sustainability practices, and other factors that are important to your company's values and objectives.

What are the different types of Renewable Gas ?

1. Biogas: This is obtained through the decomposition of organic waste in an environment without oxygen. Its main components are methane and carbon dioxide.

2. Biomethane: This is a purified form of biogas where other elements are removed to have a composition similar to traditional natural gas, but it is renewable. It's obtained from waste treatment facilities, farms, and food processing factories.

3. Bio-Propane: Also known as renewable propane, it's derived from the processing of renewable feedstocks like vegetable oils, waste oils, or animal fats.

4. Green Hydrogen: It's produced using renewable energy sources and water through a process called electrolysis.

5. Synthetic Methane: Also known as synthetic natural gas, it's produced from renewable hydrogen and carbon dioxide through a process called methanation.

6. Bio-Synthetic Natural Gas (Bio-SNG): It's produced from woody biomass through a process called gasification.

7. Renewable Natural Gas (RNG): It's produced from capturing the methane gas that's emitted from decomposing organic waste in landfills.

8. Bio-DME (dimethyl ether): Produced from biomass or biogas, it's a clean-burning, non-toxic and renewable fuel source.

9. Bio-ethylene: This is produced from renewable raw materials like sugar cane.   These renewable gases can be used for heating, electricity production, and as a fuel in transport, and they play a significant role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

How does Renewable Gas help with decarbonization?

Renewable gas, also known as green gas, is obtained from organic materials and waste. The process of production often involves the capture of methane, a potent greenhouse gas that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere, contributing to global warming. Thus, using renewable gas instead of natural gas helps in reducing greenhouse emissions and the carbon footprint.

Moreover, renewable gas can be used in existing gas infrastructure for heating, electricity generation, and transportation – sectors that are challenging to decarbonise. It offers a potential solution for these sectors without requiring major changes in infrastructure or consumer habits, facilitating the transition to a low-carbon energy system.

Additionally, the production of renewable gas often involves biological processes that absorb carbon dioxide, which can help offset greenhouse gas emissions and promote circular economy strategies.

However, it's worth noting that considerable development and policy support are required to scale up the production of renewable gas and ensure its sustainability.
